Retia Medical, LLC is a start-up digital health company with venture backing from the Pritzker-Vlock family office. Their patented software algorithms extract advanced intelligence about a patient’s cardiovascular status using common, non-invasive sensors.

With this information, clinicians are better able to detect, diagnose and treat life-threatening conditions, such as heart failure, hypertension, civilian and military trauma, shock and sepsis. Over 30 published studies show that using such advanced information can reduce mortality, complications, length of hospital stay, and hospital readmissions. Gathering this information traditionally requires highly invasive sensors, invasive procedures, and/or highly-trained operators.

Due to the safety risks, costs, and time required for these approaches, the tens of millions of high-risk patients who can most benefit from this technology are infrequently monitored if at all.  Their patented signal processing algorithms, invented at Michigan State University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, allow us to extract this critical information from safer, less-invasive sensors to improve outcomes.

The company is seeking a creative and highly-motivated Senior Biomedical Signal Processing Engineer to develop and implement novel cardiovascular signal processing algorithms based on clinical data. Significant MATLAB and computer programming required. Candidates will work closely with experts from a variety of disciplines, including clinical, physiology, hardware, and software. The position is full-time. They have offices in Michigan and in the New York Metro area.

The requirements for the position are: (1) a Ph.D. degree in engineering or the quantitative sciences; (2) strong signal processing background; (3) superior MATLAB and C/C++/C# programming skills; (4) experience with analyzing real data, de-noising, and artifact detection; (5) some experience with laboratory hardware and data acquisition systems; (6) excellent oral and written communication abilities; and (7) capacity to work independently.  In lieu of a PhD; an MS with 3 years of directly relevant experience will also be considered.  Knowledge in the areas of system identification, model order estimation, parameter estimation, and/or cardiovascular physiology is also desirable.

Benefits include a competitive salary, health insurance, and additional income with company success. This position is a great opportunity for an ambitious, hard-working person looking to make a real difference in health care through technology. For more information, please visit their website
